Hello Everyone or just Cari if you're the only reading this (I suspect you might be):
I looked through the footer and thought that maybe we were missing Jobs - but then I saw Join our team so it seems that all the information is there. It's very straightforward, nothing confusing. I think that this will be an easier way for our patrons to find information on our website. Most websites have these type of footers and I think that most people are used to this format. At least I know that if I want to find something I just scroll to the bottom and I usually find it.
Also - if all my postings could go towards the gift card that would be great!!! Thanks Cari!

Task #9 Universal Class
Hi Everyone,
I have registered for the class and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get set up and to sign up for a class. As for a staff training you could probably have everyone take the same course and after a time period look at everyone's results.

Task #7: Cloud Computing - Google Docs and Drop box
Hi Everybody,
After watching the videos and reading the article, I would continue using Google Docs (I don't really like the fact that you have to download something to the computer that you are using to use Dropbox). I really like that I can access my documents, pictures, and videos plus e-mail from any computer with internet access. It's super convenient to send all my stuff to a digital account instead of cramping my computer with so many things that I don't want to lose but don't need to look at every day. I will definitely tell patrons who use the computer downstairs about Google Docs, since I get a lot of requests for USB drives and complaints about losing information.

Task #6: Helping Patrons
Hi Everyone,
1. I completed the quiz
2. Happy to say I got them all right!! - I don't think I would have remembered every thing we offer a patron (on the spot) if it wasn't in multiple choice form though!
3.If a patron needed help setting up a resume what would you offer them?
a) Show them the Optimal Resume Link b) Book a Librarian
c) Go to the OPAC and request items on Resume Writing
d) Write it for them
e)Combine choices a, b, and c

Task #5: Chilton Library
Hi Everyone,
I went into the Chilton Library and looked up my personal awesome vehicle!! The process was super easy - like super duper easy! What I loved about it was the Bulletin area - pretty handy dandy stuff and even if you're not planning to do repairs for yourself you can print stuff out and show your mechanic so they don't screw stuff up!
Overall Experience: Pretty Awesome!

Task #4 Downloading e-Books
Hi Everyone,
So I went into Consumer Reports and I found a couple of articles that I really liked:
Kindle tops our e-reader Ratings.Full Text Available Consumer Reports, Jul2010, Vol. 75 Issue 7, p40-40, 1p, 1 Color Photograph, 1 Chart
And one that is more current:

Kindle tops our e-reader Ratings.Full Text Available Consumer Reports, Jul2010, Vol. 75 Issue 7, p40-40, 1p, 1 Color Photograph, 1 Chart
Subjects: ELECTRONIC book readers -- Evaluation; AMAZON.COM Inc.; SONY Corp.; BARNES & Noble Inc.; MOBILE computing -- Evaluation
Database: MasterFILE Premier
And one that is more current:
- Electronics: A World of Choices.
- Source:
- Consumer Reports Buying Guide, 2011, p14-60, 47p (pages 29-31)
So based on what I read and what I've known about e-Readers I would probably end up buying the Kindle or the iPad (if I went all out). Here's why:
-The Kindle app is Mac Friendly (and I'm a mac girl)
-The iPad can by synced with my mac laptop
-Kindle is the least expensive of the e-Readers with the most features: e-Ink, lightweight, easy to use, wi-fi, large library space, Amazon has relatively inexpensive books (and they give away many that are out of date plus their super duper easy one-click buy is pretty addicting) Plus it's Mac Friendly (which is a big deal for me)
- Nook is not Mac Friendly and I'm not super impressed by the Sony e-Readers or features (or store).
-The only reason I would buy the iPad is to have another home computer that I can take anywhere with an e-Reader app. (which is what I am seriously considering)
-The only reason to really buy a Sony e-Reader or Nook (in my opinion) is their library friendly abilities but I don't know that I would really be checking out that many Library e-Books due to the waiting lists (I'm not a super patient person) - and if I did then the iPad would be my way to go since it is library friendly.
SO now the first 3 steps to downloading a book to the iPad:
1. Visit the App Store and search for the Overdrive Media Console
2. Once Downloaded tap on Get Books on the top right hand corner of the App
3. Add a Website mesacountypubliclibraries.org
4. Login to your account and then choose a book once you proceed to check-out (the first time) you'll need to register for Adobe Digital Editions if you don't already have an account.

Task #2 Website Scavenger Hunt
Hi Everyone,
I just realized that I posted the answers and that probably wasn't the best thing to do! So instead here are the results of my scavenger hunt... Also, I did this the first time without cheating - PASTRAMI.
Your overall percentage for this quiz was 100%! ◄ (exclamation mark)
P.S. Some things that I learned from the website that I didn't know before were the resources available from the Rashleigh Regional History Room I had never clicked on that tab before so pretty spiffy!!! ◄ (more exclamation marks!)
